inCheck out this 3D printing pen. This could be quite useful for welding 3d printed parts together instead of using epoxy. It works with both PLA and ABS. Also, they sell an an educational bundle for outreach education — they share a bunch of class room curricula on their website.

3D printers recently made it into space when a 3D printer specially designed to operate in micro-gravity was installed on the international space station (ISS):

The 3D printer is especially useful in space, where it is not a trivial matter of going back to pick up something “left at home”. Astronauts recently needed a wrench, so engineers on earth quickly drew up a design for the tool and emailed it up to space where the tool was printed in about 4 hours:
